MSi Learning Center Goes Live |
|
| By Mitchell Jacobs -
January 10, 2010 |
The MSi Testing & Engineering Learning Center has been launched as a learning aid for clients to better see and understand the metallurgical laboratory testing procedures they request on a daily basis. The Learning Center is separated into four categories;
• Case Studies
• Photo Gallery
• Video Gallery
• Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Case Studies
The Case Studies section of the MSi Learning Center is a focal point for clients to read actual test reports from the MSi archives (MSi removes all lab numbers, client references, etc to maintain client confidentiality). The presented case studies involve metal failures analysis, corrosion failure analysis, medical implant failure analysis, casting failure analysis and welding failure analysis. Test methods within the laboratory are also presented to illustrate the different test methods such as salt spray testing, positive metal identification, consumer product safety testing (CPSIA testing), weld testing, mechanical testing and our hardness test lab capabilities. The different case studies are invaluable as a visual demonstration to new clients who are requesting a failure investigation or particular test method for the first time. The visual reference helps them see how easy our test reports are to read and understand. The case studies are also a resource to students and engineers researching or wishing to learn more about a particular metallurgical topic.
Photo Gallery
The photo gallery currently has candid photos of the MSi laboratory departments and staff. Clients have routine interaction with our staff that can occur on a monthly, weekly or even daily basis, but they never actually meet face - to - face. The candid photos capture our staff in their daily tasks and environment. The photo gallery goal is to continually add photos from metallurgical failure analysis projects and that include SEM fracture appearances, microstructures, crack appearances and even metal testing procedures and methods. (All photograph identification is deleted and in no way is client confidentiality compromised).
Videos
Metal testing methods and procedures are presented in a Microsoft Power Point application format to display test methods. The videos are in a format that allows engineers and sales staff to walk a client through a test method they may be requesting, but may not understand or have ever visually observed. The more clients know and understand about their tests the better client they are for us to help. MSi will continue to add videos to the MSi Learning Center as an on-going commitment to help our clients better understand metallurgical testing.
Frequently Asked Questions
The Frequently Asked Questions section of the MSi Learning Center is just that – questions people ask about their tests that they need better explained. Clients ask about sample sizes and minimum thickness every day. Just as the videos help explain our test methods, Frequently Asked Questions are a little more specific and will be continually added to the site as a learning tool for our clients to better help us help them. |
