Melrose Park, IL - MSi Testing and Engineering announces its Lead Testing program and approval from the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC).
Cheap manufacturing has been the way of the world for decades. Now this cost cutting has come with a new price. Many manufactured materials purchased overseas contain "unsafe" levels of the element Lead. It's high density, malleability, ease of smelting and corrosion resistance, has been its selling point for thousands of years.
Ancient civilizations used it to make jewelry, pipes and weaponry. It was even once thought to be a good insulation for the inside of liquid containers. That was then; today is a very different understanding. Lead is a highly toxic substance to the internal human body. Causing blood and brain disorders, especially in children.
The CPSC has passed a law mandating and progressively lowering the acceptable amounts of Lead in manufactured products. Strict guidelines and adherence criteria have been given to children's products. (See the Consumer Product Safety Initiative Act)
MSi Testing and Engineering is now an approved laboratory for Lead Testing. We are listed in the approved laboratory list on the CPSC website: CPSC Approval list. We employ several Lead Testing methods at MSi, all approved to determine the presence and or percentage of Lead in any given material. All aspects of a sample will be inspected. Through Chemical Analysis, utilizing ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma), OES (Optical Emissions Spectrometry), EDS (Electro Dispersive Spectroscopy) and XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence), we can provide a pass/fail or percentage amount on any given sample. All our results can be verified and repeated using the above methods in conjunction with one another. The CPSIA states that all children's toys, jewelry, fabric and furniture are to be tested BEFORE it is released to the public.
