Mechanical Testing Services

"MSi's Mechanical Testing Services Are Provided On Time To Meet Critical Scheduling Demands". The mechanical testing laboratory at MSi provides tensile testing, weld testing and Charpy Impact testing each business day for over 30 different industries. The testing capacity for the tensile machines allows for the tensile testing of wires as small as .001" diameter up to bars 1" in diameter. MSi's testing capability includes the following tests, examinations and machining capabilities:

Testing Equipment and Capabilities

Tensile Testing – ASTM E8

Charpy Impact – ASTM E23 (V Notch )

ISO 148- 1,2 U Notch

Axial Tensile Testing
Fastener Testing – ASTM F606 and SAE J429

- Wedge Tensile Testing
- Proof Load Testing
- Compression Testing
- Torque Testing

The different industries all have different testing criteria. The global manufacturing environment requires the understanding and accreditation to provide testing for many European testing specifications. The different specifications require our engineering staff to have considerable client contact before, during and after the project is completed. Many times the clients require outside agencies to provide inspection personnel to oversee the testing. This is typical in the nuclear and shipbuilding industries.

As one of the largest mechanical testing laboratories, our clients have come to expect that we can handle all of their mechanical testing lab needs.  This has required us to constantly add new test equipment and capabilities so that we can be a “one stop shop” for our clients.  Whether proof load or surface roughness testing, we are expected to have ALL of their required testing capabilities under one roof.  If not, we would have to send the testing out to another laboratory and WAIT.  This has not been the mind set here at MSi.  When we consider adding a mechanical testing service, we already know there is a need but we still speak with our current clients and let them know our intention.  Many times our clients through their own networking and referrals provide us with new clientele or potential tests we should add to our scope of services.  Letting them know that we are expanding our testing capabilities helps us grow while helping themselves at the same time.

Mechanical testing services can mean many things to different industries.  It is our job to understand the differences between the different testing procedures.  Whether ASTM or ISO test methods, our staff of engineers will review the client test request and discuss the testing BEFORE proceeding. This provides an opportunity for dialogue between the client and the engineer so that all of the client’s needs and requirements will be addressed.  This saves considerable time rather than performing what we may assume the client may be saying and then having to redo the testing when our assumptions are incorrect.  Here at MSi we get it right the first time – on time.
