MSi has a complete metal chemical analysis laboratory that includes both optical emission spectrography (OES), inductively coupled plasma (ICP) wet chemical testing and all Leco gas analyzers. Our Chemist’s have over 30 years experience performing chemical analysis of metal alloys.
The most important step in the chemical analysis process is the preparation of the supplied samples. Shape, size and configuration of the submitted sample all affect the testing procedures. These varying parameters can increase the price of the analysis if the sample is too small, requires machining or abrasive cutting is needed for high hardness samples.
Small samples, chips, and shavings require a considerable amount of preparation compared to a solid sample. One method of preparation is acid digestion using a microwave digester. Leco analysis for carbon/sulfur along with the ICP wet chemical analysis for the elemental composition, can range from $150 - $500 per sample. The required elements, current laboratory standards and required minimum detection limits can significantly increase the cost of the ICP analysis. Our sales department will explain the costs based on your individual testing needs.
